An antique Japanese Meiji Era covered enamel brass kogo or box for incense. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century. The box is enameled with polychrome floral and foliage patterns and an image of a Phoenix bird on the top of the lid made in the Cloisonne technique. Unmarked. A kogo is used for holding incense and historically most often at the tea ceremony, the temple, or for the small worship area in the home. The kogo is also a wonderful item of character to decorate with, in addition to placing small items in, and around the house or office. Antique and Vintage Asian and Oriental Enamel Boxes, Table and Desk Wares, Home Decor, and Collectibles.
