An Exceptionally Fine Quality Well Figured Coromandel Writing Slope with lavish Ormolu mounts with extensive pierced cut decoration, complete with original fitted interior, mid Nineteenth Century.
This Writing Slope is in our opinion (based on previous sold examples) by renowned Cabinet makers Austins Westmorland Street Dublin.
Condition: This Writing Slope has been professionally re-polished and the Ormolu mounts re-gold plated. The original leather is a bit worn, one ink bottle is not present. Lock is present and working, key is lacking.

Coromandel: also known as Makassar Ebony, is a member of the genus Diospyros and one of the plants commonly known as ebony. Coromandel ebony wood is variegated, streaky brown and black, nearly always wide striped. It is considered a highly valuable wood for turnery, fine cabinet work and joinery.
